ONBIDA is a non-profit organization that was founded in June 2004 and provides free information, referrals, and programs for the 1 in 10 people with dyslexia, their families, and the professionals that support them. Dyslexia is a lifelong learning disability that cannot be cured, however, with specialized instruction these individuals CAN learn to read.
ONBIDA provides the following FREE programs to the community:
- Information & referral phone line and e-mail inquiry service
- Fact sheets in English and French
- Informational website with discussion forum
- Quarterly speaker series
- Teacher training
- Public outreach presentations
- School outreach presentations
- Parent support groups
- Newsletter
- ONBIDA also offers an annual paid conference in Toronto for families and professionals. ONBIDA provides paid scholarships to this event to cover all registration fees for individuals with demonstrated financial need.
- In 2011, ONBIDA also launched a new virtual Parent as Tutor program to serve families in areas with little or no access to services for a low fee.
